One notable example of this in recent times is when Hindenburg Research took on one of the world’s richest people, Gautam Adani and accused his company, The Adani Group, of a brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme. This led to Adani’s firms losing about $110 billion in value and his wealth halving to about $60 billion, as of February 2023. So, is short selling a surefire way to deal with market malfeasance? Should this sound a warning bell to new-age companies in the Indian markets?
