EV Registrations In India Declining In September 2023?

In September 2023, according to one study, there was said to be a slight dip in registrations It was said that in August 2023, about 63,000 units of two-wheeler EVs were getting registered. But, in September 2023, that number fell by 1.8% to about 61,500 units. This is said to come after 2 consecutive months of increased registrations. Ola Electric is said to continue to hold the top position among two-wheeler manufacturers. However, it was said to have faced a setback with a decline of over 3% in e-scooter registrations in September 2023. The number was said to drop from about 18,716 units in August to 18,138 units. This decline had arrived, even though it had delivered its S1 Air e-scooter by August 2023.

Ather Energy is another player in the electric two-wheeler space. It is said to have experienced a 3.3% decrease in e-scooter registrations in September 2023. This is said to have fallen from about 7100 units in August 2023 to about 6900 units. The company is said to have aimed to double its market share in the electric scooter market to 25-30% by the end of FY24. It is said to currently command about 11% market share in this category.

Hero Electric’s electric scooter registrations were said to have risen by 4.2% compared to August 2023, reaching 816 units from 783 units in August 2023.The Ministry of Heavy Industries had proposed to cut down existing EV subsidies on electric two-wheelers from 40% of the total sales price to about 15%. On the other hand, it was said that Bajaj Auto is gaining momentum in the two-wheeler EV market. Its vehicle registrations are said to have increased to about 6800 units in September 2023 from about 6600 units in August 2023.
