India Banning Foreign Donations To Leading Think Tank?

The Indian government suspended the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act license of the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), a leading think tank, over alleged law violations. This suspension, effective since February 27, prohibits CPR from receiving foreign funds. CPR, under scrutiny since September 2022 Income Tax surveys, maintains its FCRA application is under renewal. The investigation follows raids on CPR, Oxfam India, and the Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation, involving potential tax evasion and FCRA violations. Oxfam India’s FCRA license was also suspended in January the previous year.
