This may be, due to its LLMs, like ChatGPT. But, did it start that way? OpenAI was said to be originally founded as a non-profit organization. The initial mission was said to be conducting R&D to ensure Artificial General Intelligence is safely developed and that its benefits are broadly distributed. But, something changed in its structure in 2019: it became a capped-profit. A capped profit limits the profits that investors in the company would receive.
