Women Still Underrepresented In Indian Corporate Leadership? | RizingHer

The ‘Enhancing Women Leadership in India Inc’ study, conducted by Fortune India and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, reveals a stark gender gap in corporate leadership. Only 1.6% of Fortune India 500 companies have women in top roles, rising marginally to 5% for the Next 500. Supported by the Women and Child Development Ministry and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the study engaged 130 industry leaders, identifying challenges such as the ‘leaky pipeline’ phenomenon and inherent biases. While rejecting quotas, actionable recommendations include tax rebates and fostering a culture of sponsorship. Urgent industry-wide initiatives are needed to address these disparities and promote women’s leadership.
